This is one of six books that tours the Grand Circle Adventure parks in southern Utah and northern Arizona. The areas covered in this book are shown in the front cover and the Table of Contents when you use the “Look Inside” option available by opening the Amazon book Internet site. Most print books are black/white to avoid prohibitive cost of color ($30). Only Book 5 and 7 are and color. All Kindle E-books are in color that can be viewed on your TV connected to a computer. Where applicable, valuable specific history of that area is included from ancient Indian to modern pioneer evolution. There are suggestions of what to see and do for each tour. > Your exact location is known by using a meticulous identification of MPs (mile posts along the road indicating mileage) located at each mile (1.6 km) on every improved road. Where those MPs are not available, we use actual miles from a designated reference point. Where applicable, Global Positioning data (GPS) is supplied to complement walking tours in remote areas. Using this collection of information, you will always know your exact location. > Book navigation starts with the Table of Contents. Under each major Trip there are many individual Tours. Each Tour has the following segments: 1.0 Information: 2-Visitor Center; 3-Services; 4-Lodging; 5-Camping, 6-Hiking; 7-Other Tours (Biking, Horse, Rafting, etc.) and 8-Driving Tours. - Introduction to Major Parks - * South Rim Grand Canyon is the jewel of American Parks. The book contains an extensive description of the historic Watchtower design and explanation of the various Hopi Indian paintings. It was built in 1932 and is the highest point in the Park. The book contains fascinating history of how touring began in the park from stagecoach to train is included. North Rim is detailed in Book 3, Vermilion Cliffs * Canyon de Chelly has been occupied for centuries from Indian and now is part of the Navajo Reservation. In addition to spectacular cliff walls, there are ancient Anasazi Indian Ruins. Navajo Indian guides are available to internally tour the canyons. White House Ruin is internationally famous. It can be hiked without a Navajo Guide. * Hubbell Trading Post is an American Historic site and the last existing Indian Trading Post in the U.S. It is a National Monument. The buildings remain exactly as they were, including all house interior decoration, when the Post was given to the National Park by the Hubbell family. Essentially, this is a museum of the old west Trading Posts. * Painted Desert - It is known for its magnificent desert colors best viewed at sunrise or sunset. It is also home to ancient dinosaurs. * Petrified Forest - World’s largest display of petrified wood. Located in this park is an ancient Indian Ruin and many petroglyphs. Prized and polished petrified wood can be purchased outside the park. This wood is extracted from private land. * Meteor Crater is where a huge meteor impacted earth about 50,000 years ago creating a hole 550 feet (152 m) deep and 2.4 miles (3.86 km) in circumference. > Walnut Canyon Indian Ruins are hidden in a deep canyon. Many are well preserved and/or restored. * Oatman is an active gold mining Ghost Town with roaming wild burros. * Purcell Murals - These brilliant abstract images are painted on huge boulders. * Route 66 is the most historic road in the U.S. It was THE road from Chicago to southern California where millions of people used to start another life in the west. * Hoover Dam - One of the two grand dams on the Colorado River providing vital water and electricity to Nevada and southern California. There is a parking lot and path to the bridge where you can look down on the dam from the road.
