Caroljean & Aurelia Caroljean, 1963 10-year-old Caroljean’s mom works as a waitress and singer in nightclubs along the Jacksboro Highway in Fort Worth. While sitting on a barroom stool waiting for her mother, Caroljean overhears rumors not meant for her ears. She writes what she’d heard in her diary. Catching Daydreams 1965: the era of The Beatles, the Rolling Stones, and The Beach Boys. School kids rave about the newest songs and groups. But 12-year-old Aurelia is dyslexic. Her therapists insist that music worsens her neurological development. Despite her strangeness, she makes friends. Boons are followed by challenges. Aurelia is adopted and faces identity issues. She begins a diary, writing to an imaginary friend named Amy who encourages her to reflect, to know herself, and alleviate her sadness.
