On the day after Thanksgiving, 1966, eleven year old Carson Dodge awakens to a shocking discovery--his older brothers are missing, and no one even remembers them except him. He is mystified and devastated, unwilling to even consider his worst fears. However, as time progresses he learns that his older brothers are likely still alive, but it appears they are caught in a parallel universe, and that they are 50 years ahead of him in 2016/2017. Carson is a fervently committed Evangelical young man in Wichita, Kansas, as were his missing brothers. In an unusual twist of fate, Carson becomes close to his church's beloved bad boy, the athletic, older and influential Phil Ruger. Phil Ruger is mysteriously able to help provide him with a vehicle of information that assists him in locating his brothers, and which also provides him a glimpse as to what is going on his beloved country, and in the world, 50 years in the future. As Carson pursues this glimpse into the future that has been surprisingly provided, he is taken very much by surprise at what he learns is taking place in his country, and some of the things that are being supported by his people (the Evangelicals), and his family's political party (the Republicans).Carson goes about trying to respond to his incredible sense of loss, attempting to somehow communicate with his missing brothers (50 years in the future), confessing to some of his own sins, errors and mistakes that he makes along the way, while also trying to make sense out of what has happened to his people. All is written from a rather matter of fact, curious, frequently humorous 11 year old Kansas boy perspective. Little does Carson realize he may be attempting to address some of the most central and practical theological dilemmas of our time.
