Celebrating Red October - first published in 2017 by the International Bolshevik Tendency on www.bolshevik.org - is an appraisal of the Russian Revolution of October 1917 - the greatest event in modern history. It explores Marx’s materialist conception of history and the role that revolution has played in relation to human material progress. Lenin’s views on the party and the state are also examined in a wider historical discussion of political organization, revolutionary subjectivity and the transfer of power from one social class to another. For humanity to escape the inevitable byproducts of capitalism in the 21st century - imperialist war, malnutrition, disease, environmental degradation and economic crises - the lessons of the Russian Revolution must be assimilated by a new generation of fighters, and “Red October” must once again be seen as the opening shot of world-wide socialist transformation.
