This book adds to what the original past book I authored does not cover. It is a more expanded edition of the performance artists, musicians, venues, bands/ensembles, and even some of the people that contributed to Chicago's DIY scene, especially recently. Also, unlike the previous book, there are much more photos and art added to enhance the new book, and borrowed photos are credited to the original source(s) through "caption" citations. Moreover, we also get a bit more intimate with summarized biographies of more Chicago DIY heavies, such as musician Traci Trouble, musician/comic artist Anya Davidson, musician/singer Sarah Jane Quillin (of her "Desert Liminal" music project), and artist-activist Sara Heymann, We start off with the defunct Bridgeport venue that was known for punk in the past--called Ranchos Huevos (2966 S. Archer), and finish off with the newest of the punk bands that is now hot in the Chicago DIY circuit--King Sans, which was a noise-punk duo. I also add more of the important DIY DJs, performance artists, zine artists, and musicians that put a stamp on the scene, such as Tara Shedor (aka T-Rex Shedor), Jillian Musielak (aka Sick Cakez), Flabby Hoffman, and Ruth Oppenheim-Rothschild (aka Robin Hustle). I also add some more summaries of both established and underground DIY venues that now are extinct but had some excitement before they were gone--ranging from Babylawn, Wally World, Peter Jones Gallery, Hallowed Ground, Mount Happy, and Yolanda Clubhouse--all the way to Archie's Cafe, Danny's Tavern, and Hotti Biscotti. I also cover a few defunct DIY projects such as The Land Line (a Chicago DIY newspaper), and more importantly, the Newberry Library Book Fair. In addition, I also released a PowerPoint transcript on the already-closed Heartland Cafe. (That presentation was accepted for public display at the Roman Susan art venue in 2024 which, sadly, is scheduled to permanently close after the 2025 year.) I also cover summaries of DIY venues that are still around, such as the Heaven Gallery, The Hideout, and my most favorite one--Cafe Mustache, and moreover, I put down the trailblazing DIY gigs from the years 2022, 2023, and 2024 (from DIY punk to performance art happenings). I also add some more "jazz stuff" to this DIY book--not just punk and performance art happenings. I cover a few of Chicago's DIY jazz heavies such as Tiger Hatchery and Galaxxu, and also cover a summary of The Ratchet Series, which was founded by Chicago's DIY jazz saxophonist, Nick Mazzarella. I also focus on some experimental music/avant-garde music issues through covering a summary of the "New Music Series" at The Green Mill. I also add more inclusivity in this book, covering the African-American DIY venue called Transitions East (in the South Shore Neighborhood), and cover the out-of-state gigs of Jill Flanagan, a trans artist for the Forced into Femininity project, as well as cover the already-defunct pro-queer DIY art venue near Humboldt Park, TCC Chicago. I also summarize the "Japanese Butoh" dance scene in Chicago, and witnessing the first-ever appearance of a mayoral candidate at any Chicago DIY space--the defunct Club Rectum DIY venue. I also did some research on the pyrotechnic contributions of non-Chicagoan DIY artist, Adele Goldbard, a Mexican, who did a large-scale DIY set piece called "The Last Judgment" at a park just near Chicago's Cook County Jail in October 2020, at the height of the COVID-19 pandemic. Her fiery display seemed to indirectly pay homage to how the Pilsen and La Villita communities express their performances DIY-style when they were not allowed to during that plague. Finally, I add my own original material---a few of my avant-garde poems or satirical poems, and added some of my own photos of myself or my wares related to Chicago's DIY scene (such as a few pictures from the defunct "Big Forever" house venue, etc.).
