This book will awaken youngsters to the wonders of the Chesapeake Bay and the life in and around it. With outstanding illustrations and concise text geared for children ages four through nine, the book beckons youngsters and their parents to learn by exploring the estuarine environment. Chesapeake Bay Walk guides readers along the bay's different shoreline habitats: beach, mudflat, pier, marsh, and shallows. It features an explanation of the food chain that is easy for this age group to understand, a tour of the changing seasons, and a checklist for youngsters to use to keep track of their discoveries. "Almost as good as a field trip-and a lot less hectic. Chesapeake Bay Walk would be a neat souvenir of a visit." -- The Roanoke (Va.) Times, Jan. 17, 1999 "An attractive and coloful book that children should read or have read to them before they walk around the waters of the Chesapeake Bay." -- The (Easton, Md.) Star Democrat, Oct. 23, 1998 "Delicately written and lavishly illustrated-kids love this kind of thing. There is no lower age limit for Chesapeake Bay Walk." -- Chesapeake Life Magazine, Spring 1999 "The first book of its kind for younger children...with outstanding illustrations and concise text geared for children." -- Tidewater Trader, Dec. 1998 "[E]xplains just about everything you might see in the Bay as well as its creeks, rivers, and marshes. Very complete and easy to understand." -- Baltimore Sun, Mar. 7, 1999 Chesapeake Bay Walk takes young children and their parents or teachers on an unforgettable shoreline journey. On a stroll through its pages they can find soft-bellied bullies, birds once hunted for their feathers, crabs old than dinasaurs, bald five-year-olds, and living prehistoric creatures made of water.
