Ezmeralda Palazzo is a nine-year-old, shuffled from one foster home to another, never making it with a family through Christmas, forcing her to believe that "foster kids don't get Christmas". This time, however, she lands in the home of a kind African American family, the Jacobs. The Jacobs treat her as if she is their own biological daughter, extending every right and honor a family member would naturally have. She apprehensively spends Christmas with the Jacobs, which was just three days after her placement. But, as much as she likes the Jacobs, she is convinced she will be sent back to the CPS office before Christmas comes back around again. Not only that, but Mr. Nixon, the school principal, sees her as a liability from being in the foster care system. Then, there is Ted--the school bully... "Christmas Makes Me Cry" is a story of redemption in a world lacking love and consideration. It will tug at your heart strings, make you laugh, and possibly shed a tear showing that family and belonging is what makes Christmas the magical holiday it was always meant to be.
