Pulitzer Prize winning poet Robert P. Tristram Coffin's 1941 depiction of the perfect Maine Christmas describes a farmhouse "banked with emerald jewels clustered on bayberry boughs," stuffed with aunts, uncles, and cousins by the cart load, with mince pies by the legion. You will feel like one of the family as he brings you along to play with cousins in the hay chaff, take a bouncy afternoon sled ride, savor the goose during the three-hour meal, string popcorn for the tree, and listen to tales by firelight at the drowsy end of a long and perfect day. Paired with gorgeous and evocative original woodblock prints by Maine artist Blue Butterfield, this edition will be a keepsake book, one to read aloud year after year to remind ourselves of the true meaning of the holidays. Coffin s prose glitters on the page, evoking warm, colorful scenes, family members you feel that you know and food you can almost taste. The words wrap around you like a well-made blanket, and you can almost hear the snap of the fire and the crinkle of wrapping paper. --Katy England, The Maine Edge Coffin's Christmas is idyllic, a fun, tender vision of joyful family holiday traditions still remembered. --Bill Bushnell, The Morning Sentinel Even if you've never sat wrapped in a buffalo robe on a sleigh ride or cooked the family goose for your Christmas feast, Coffin's words and Butterfield's images will make you believe that you have. --Taylor Bigler, The Ellsworth American Christmas in Maine feels like a book that's been around for a very long time. -- The Portland Press Herald ----- About the Author: Born in 1892 in Brunswick, Maine, Robert Peter Tristram Coffin attended Bowdoin College and Princeton University.
