I have compiled and edited this collection of Classic monologues for young girls to study, perform and enjoy. These scenes are suitable for a range of acting exams and awards as well as for auditions and festivals. I have tried and tested these scenes with numerous students over the years with great success and more importantly, they have thoroughly enjoyed working on them. I believe, it is crucial to choose characters within ones’ playing range. This collection contains a range of characters suited to be played by young girls from the age of approximately 8yrs to 14 yrs. From my experience, I have seen many young actors tackling characters which are often unsuited to their age range and skills. There will be plenty of time in the future to tackle the more mature and demanding female characters which are available to play from a wealth of drama and literature. Learn to build your skills and technique slowly and systematically with the younger, and age appropriate characters before you attempt to move forwards to the demands of older and more complex characters.The monologues in this collection are taken from a range of plays and classic novels: Anne of Green Gables, Alice in Wonderland, Peter Pan, The Secret Garden, A Little Prince, Ballet Shoes, Jane Eyre, Little Women, Rebecca of Sunnybrook Farm, The Wizard of Oz, The Barretts of Wimpole Street, Pride and Prejudice and many more.
