The best stories subtly weave themes and characters and symbols into a stunning final tapestry. For many Christians, sadly, the Old Testament is merely a jumble of moralistic stories and weird rituals, genealogies, and historical chronicles. What is the point of it all, and what does it have to do with Jesus? In this short and readable book, Leithart gives a sweeping overview of the Bible, its stories, and the patterns and symbols that recur throughout it, highlighting the ways many of the little stories look forward to the life, death, and resurrection of Jesus Himself. Although the book is lots of fun, the lessons it teaches are far from trivial. The Gospels say again and again Jesus is the fulfillment of the Old Testament. Christians need to learn to read the Old Testament the way Jesus and the Apostles read it, so that we can delight in the word of God and encounter Him in its stories. This book can be read easily by high school students and includes review questions for anyone who wants to use it in their curriculum. However, it will also give anyone familiar with Scripture much to think about. A House for My Name: A Survey of the Old Testament by Peter Leithart is a short and readable biblical theology book that offers a sweeping overview of how the stories recurring throughout the Old Testament foreshadow the key events in the life, death, and resurrection of Jesus Christ. This Christian book dispels myths of the Old Testament being outdated by helping readers understand how the seemingly moralistic stories and bizarre rituals have a deeper meaning rooted in its connection to Jesus. This religious book reiterates the teachings of the gospels, “Jesus is the fulfillment of the Old Testament” and encourages families around the dinner table to study the real events recorded in the scripture. This book also helps readers understand their own connection to god by learning about the biblical history of people of god, which eventually lead to Jesus and the Apostles. Rebekah Merkle has dabbled in a number of occupations ranging from running her own clothing label to designing fabrics to becoming a full-time high school humanities teacher (which is fitting, because she was a student in one of the founding classical Christian schools in the USA). Rebekah is also the author of the book Eve in Exile , but by far her proudest accomplishment is her crew of five outrageous, hilarious, high-speed teenage children, and her favorite role is that of wife to her similarly outrageous, hilarious, and high-speed husband Ben Merkle.
