John Abbot is a Senior Fellow at the Institute of Public Affairs with more than 120 peer-reviewed publications in international journals, including more than a dozen recent publications in climate science. John is interested in understanding how natural systems change, and the application of artificial intelligence, particularly using neural networks, for forecasting rainfall, and for separation of natural and anthropogenic temperature change. He is a graduate in chemistry from Imperial College, London (1973) with an MSc from the University of British Columbia (1978) and a PhD from McGill University (Montreal) (1982), and also a Master of Biotechnology degree from the University of Queensland. He also has law degrees, a Juris Doctor (2003) and Master of Laws from the University of Queensland (2004), and was admitted as a solicitor in 2004. He has a Master of Technology Management from Deakin University (1997) and has held faculty positions at Queen’s University, Canada, the University of Tasmania, Griffith University, Queensland University of Technology and Central Queensland University.
