Dr. Richard "Dick" Cohen temporarily stepped away from his tenured university professor's position in 1980 to venture into the auto salvage business with a friend. At the same time, they began buying, driving, vintage racing, and later selling Shelby Mustangs, Corvettes, Cobras, and GT40s--including several extremely rare cars--along with '37 Cords, a '63 Galaxie 500 Lightweight, '70 Hemi 'Cudas, Panteras, and three '65 Shelby R-Models found in Lima, Peru. That was just the start. Most prized of all was the '66 Ford GT40 that Ken Miles drove across the finish line at LeMans that year, as depicted in the movie Ford v Ferrari . Dick often vintage raced this stunning and historic auto. This book tells the full story of how these desirable cars were acquired, as well as Dick's impressive (and unexpected) life. The stories herein are shocking, exciting, at times puzzling, and all true. Included are more than 180 photographs showing almost every car Dick has owned dating back to 1963. “enjoyable reading.” ― Speedreaders “Approaches automotive history from an angle that is both technical and humane... frames Cohen as a study in appetite and decision-making, whose enthusiasms are pursued seriously... technical fluency without fetishism, narrative patience, and a steady respect for complexity.”― Arkansas Democrat Gazette “Jim Kreuz’s wordsmithing skills shine and render the entire book an enjoyable and engaging read... grabs readers’ attention.”― Antique Automobile “The book captures Cobra’s voice with refreshing immediacy... this book reads like a love letter to a surely never-to-be-repeated era... told with candor and authenticity.”― Sports Car Market Magazine Jim Kreuz lives in Fort Smith, Arkansas.
