Whether you are meeting with a doctor, coach, or academic advisor, when it comes to news, we generally want the “bad news” first. That way, when the appointment is over, we can leave his or her office with the “good news.” This study is no different. Last week, we covered the very bad news of our sinful hearts and God’s severe punishment. This week, we get to the good news. We are going to discuss the concept of grace. This is without a doubt a word we say regularly but fail to understand its significance. You might say “grace” before you eat family dinner. If you live in the South, I know that you have sung about “Amazing grace.” But what is grace? Is it simply a synonym for being nice, kind, or pleasant? The Bible says it is much, much more. In fact, grace is the key to enter into a right relationship with God. In my opinion, there are basically two ways to relate to God: by our own performance or by God’s grace.
