Mako, Jr. graduated from The University of Valley Forge with a degree in Biblical Theology and a desire to pastor a church. He accepted a pastorate in central Pennsylvania and learned first-hand what it was like to be a struggling pastor of a small church. He went on to study at California State University in Los Angeles receiving a BA in Political Science with an emphasis in Public Administration and completed all the coursework for his MS in Public Administration. He started in the public sector and in compensation as an intern rising to Interim Director of the Center for Public Resources in Los Angeles. The CPR is an umbrella organization that functions as an incubator for fledgling organizations like the California Association of Public Information Officers (CAPIO) and the Southern California Labor Relations Council (SCLRC.) At the CPR, and working for the SCLRC, Mr. Mako led efforts to establish a neutral total compensation database to provide data for negotiating state and local government worker contracts. He also coordinated the League of California Cities Total Compensation Salary Survey for Los Angeles and Orange Counties. While at the CPR, he assisted the Urban Institute on its study, Performance Measurement in Local Governments. Mr. Mako went on to become Assistant to the City Manager of Alhambra, California where he coordinated the Human Resources office, researched and developed policy and implemented Human Resources and compensation projects. He moved to the private sector, accepting the position of Organization and Compensation Analyst, for Home Savings of America where he was responsible for designing and implementing organization and compensation plans. Richard led many information technology and business projects and has been involved in compensation and benefits decision making. He served as an elected member of the Administrative Board of Ridgeway Church in New York and Chairman of the Compensation Committee each for 8 years. Richard was elected Ridgeway's Treasurer for 2 years. Mr. Mako also has an AA degree in Internet Multimedia, an MA in Writing from Manhattanville College in Purchase, New York, an Master of Library Science from Queens College. He is both a certified Project Management Professional (PMP) and a certified Archives and Cultural Preservation Specialist. Richard lives with his wife Michaelann and their Welsh Pembroke Corgis Eddie and Bogie in southeast Connecticut.
