The word Conform has become somewhat of a “dirty” word within our culture. It invokes images of weakness, surrender, loss of individualism, loss of creativity, and loss of freedom, to name a few. The reason we view conformity this way is because the culture of the world around us advocates the belief that we are not to conform to anything or anybody other than who we are, what we want to do, and what we want to be as an individual. God has much to say about who we are, what we are to do, and the beliefs and attitudes we are to embrace as His covenant people and followers of Jesus. As a result, He has much to say about conformity and the role it is to play within our individual lives and our communities of faith. Conformity is very important to God…so important, in fact, that He has made it the crux and “end game” of His predestined plan for fallen humanity, in this present age. To put it plainly, when all is said and done, and we have completed all that we are to do and become all that we are to be, the one word God uses to describe that end result is conformed ! Our initial reaction to this truth is, most likely, confusion or bewilderment. “How can I become conformed to the image of Jesus when He is perfect and I’m not, when He is God and I’m not, and when I am confronted with the weakness and inconsistency of my “humanity” every day?” This is a great question, and we will endeavor to answer it, and more, as we make our way through this book. One of the reasons God sent Jesus to us is to show us the truth and difference between the culture of the Kingdom of God and the culture of the domain of darkness (this world). The Kingdom of God is established upon and operates according to God’s truth. The domain of darkness is established upon and operates according to deception, error, and half-truths, promoted by Satan, which is not truth. Even though we are, now, citizens of God’s Kingdom, we have no idea who God is, what the Kingdom of God looks like, how it operates, or what our place and responsibilities are within it. To help us “bridge this gap” of knowledge and understanding, God sent His Son, Jesus, to be His Kingdom representative to us and our example and “focal point” during our transformation and conforming process. Jesus came to instruct us and demonstrate to us what God’s Kingdom is, how it operates, what our place and responsibilities are within it, and to present God’s image to us so we can see and understand Who it is we are to become conformed to. By doing this, Jesus demonstrated to us who and what God originally created us to be and do, within His Kingdom order and as His Kingdom representatives to the earth and the creatures of the earth. With this is mind, the purpose of this book is to: bring clarity and understanding to what our transformation entails and what conformity to Jesus really is - clarify how we can place ourselves in a position for the Holy Spirit to actively work within us to produce this transformation and conformity - present what we, as individual followers of Jesus and His community of faith, can do to encourage and - strengthen our resolve to pursue this conformity - describe what the “end game” of this transformation and conformity to Jesus will look like and accomplish As the third book in the "Studies In The Kingdom Of God" series, Conformed To The Image Of Jesus connects the dots, and more, in regard to the Kingdom of God and what is written in the first two books of this series. Conformed is a very timely book, considering what is occurring in our world today, and what many followers of Jesus anticipate is ahead of us, in the coming years. This book was written for such a time as this.
