This book is a collection of transcripts from my international award-winning short films called Contemplations. The work was born out of a simple daily practice: writing three pages longhand each morning, a discipline suggested in the book The Artist’s Way. Over time, these pages became a place to capture fragments of thought, insight, and observation. Some of these ideas found their way into my notes, and I would return to them whenever I had a quiet moment, often over a cup of coffee or after meditation. When COVID arrived, like so many others, I suddenly had the time and space to develop these reflections more fully. What began as one short film grew into a creative project that now spans five years, with seventeen completed Contemplations and several others quietly waiting in the wings. The intent behind this work has always been to start a conversation, both with ourselves and with each other, about what we all share as human beings. I had grown weary of the polarization that seemed to define so much of our world, and I wanted to remind people that beneath our differences, we are far more alike than not. We all live, love, grieve, and die…and through it all, the common thread is love. I hope these Contemplations serve as a springboard for your own reflections and journaling, and that they inspire you to pause, look inward, and connect with the deeper rhythm that moves us all.
