Craftsman furniture has double appeal for woodworkers. First, it’s an appealing, distinctive style that seems to suit practically every home. In fact, the current revival in Craftsman styling has gone on far longer than the original movement of the late 19th and early 20th centuries. So clearly, there’s a lot of room left for coming up with projects that fit the mold. Second, the kinds of projects that you’ll find in this book are just fun to make. There’s a good blend of complexity and simplicity, as well as the chance to learn solid woodworking skills. No wonder it’s a favorite of many woodworkers. In this book, you’ll find projects for a wide range of projects in the Craftsman style. Big pieces like a Morris chair, or the library table are sure to become focal points in your home. But the smaller projects hold just as much visual appeal. The dartboard cabinet is one of my favorites. Since you probably enjoy spending time in the shop as much as the finished project, your shop should look the part, too right? So a Craftsman-style chisel rack will fit right in. And since the Craftsman ideals constituted an approach to life not merely a passing furniture style, it just seems to fit.
