This children’s chapter book for beginning readers and their elders tells about a pair of Crocs shoes that journey from the discard pile of two brothers in the United States to the feet of a boy in Kenya. Understanding blossoms in this tale based on a real project in a real African village. Readers learn how much a pair of outgrown rubbery sandals can mean to a child who has never before owned any shoes of any kind. The company of Crocs, Inc., was not involved with the book, which was produced independently and focuses on helping American children learn about life in the developing world. Mary-Margaret Patterson is a former staff writer for metropolitan daily newspapers in Chicago and Houston. She has worked for national nonprofits in Washington, DC, and has taught journalism at several universities. She has master's and bachelor's degrees from The Ohio State University.

How are ratings calculated?
To calculate the overall star rating and percentage breakdown by star, we don’t use a simple average. Instead, our system considers things like how recent a review is and if the reviewer bought the item on Amazon. It also analyzes reviews to verify trustworthiness.
