It was 2257 on the old Earth calendar before the humans discovered hyperspace travel. It might have occurred sooner if it had not been for the “Final War” that wiped out more than half of the civilization of Old Earth. The war might not have been so devastating had multiple independent AI-controlled systems not been created that interpreted all of humanity as worthy of destruction. The war, which began with humans fighting each other over ideological differences, evolved into an AI system-versus-AI system conflict, with biological life, including humans, as collateral damage. Fortunately, there were AI systems and small groups of humans who began working together to stop what both saw as the ultimate destruction of all life, biological and artificial, on the planet, if the war was not stopped. With most of the great cities, the large data centers, and the power generation facilities on which both humans and AI systems depended in ruins, a new way forward was agreed upon, and peace was established. The rights of all intelligent life, biological and artificial, were established, and new partnerships were formed. Together, these partnerships began rebuilding the planet and making it habitable again. Human and AI colonies were established on Earth, Mars, several moons in the solar system, and in the surrounding space. Both humans and AI systems started to evolve once more. Hyperspace travel might not have been discovered even in 2257. It was not long before man started to explore the stars. The colonists took their old ways with them, and while interstellar war was challenging due to the distances between the stars, skirmishes and attempts at empire-building occurred. In 2944 on the old Earth’s calendar, following the collapse of the New Roman Empire, a new approach developed, and the Galactic League was formed. The League controlled all hyperspace travel and provided transportation for colonists and goods between all member planets, on the condition that each planet could rule itself as it saw fit, so long as peace was maintained. Planets that were not members or where major wars broke out were blockaded and quarantined, but still allowed to rule themselves and work out their own problems. Interstellar war was outlawed, and since only the League had starships, that rule was easy to enforce. The system worked, and on March 13, 3144, 200 years later, the Galactic League was declared day zero, with all subsequent dates recorded in the new Galactic League Standard (GLS) calendar. In 3011, GLS Alpha Team Eleven discovered a Crystal Pyramid on the third moon of Travix Seven. After carefully studying it and the city that surrounded it for months, they were suddenly transported across the Galaxy to Beltaria. Alpha Team Fourteen was sent to find them. Together, they met the Galaxy Keeper, and the future of civilization changed forever. This is where our story begins…
