Lavishly illustrated with black and white photographs, this second instalment in the Curious England series introduces the reader to some of the lesser-known folkloric and historical curiosities of rural England, its towns and smaller cities. Once more you will encounter ghost stories; tales of devilry and witchcraft; local takes on national history; characterful carvings in wood and stone; prehistoric monuments and their associated folklore, and a curious tale or two that defy conventional classification. Its geographical compass is wide but far from comprehensive, with some counties omitted altogether. The focus in this instalment is on the West Country, although a number of midland counties are touched upon, as well as Suffolk; you will also find a few entries on Cumbria which received more comprehensive coverage in the first guide.

How are ratings calculated?
To calculate the overall star rating and percentage breakdown by star, we don’t use a simple average. Instead, our system considers things like how recent a review is and if the reviewer bought the item on Amazon. It also analyzes reviews to verify trustworthiness.
