In 1982 McPherson was the first student from the University of New Haven to be named All American and be drafted into the NFL. But two years into his pro career with the San Diego Chargers, McPherson was battling a drug problem and living an immoral lifestyle. In a dramatic turn McPherson gave his life to Christ on April 12, 1984, and stopped using drugs instantly.
