Dahabo was five years old when British Colonial troops stormed her village, massacring most of her family and friends. A refugee and a nomad, Dahabo traveled throughout Somalia, reconnecting the pieces of her family as she tried to build a life. Living through a period of great change and political upheaval, Dahabo's story is framed by a backdrop of British, then Italian occupations, war with Ethiopia, Somalian Independence and the devastation of Cold War power struggles. The rise and fall of her country mirrored the successes, heartbreaks, and ultimate peace she found in her life. This is the story of my grandmother Dahabo, a Somali nomad. Nimo Shire is a graduate of the University of London.
