James Luke Jablonski was born in 1941, the first of five children. He completed his entire education in his home town, Stevens Point, Wisconsin, graduating from college in 1964 with a major in Sociology and a minor in Psychology. After college graduation he joined the United States Peace Corps. In 1964 he was assigned to live alone in a small village in Nigeria, West Africa. He was the first and only white man to inhabit this village. In cooperation with the Ford Foundation, he worked with the inhabitants of the village and they developed a vegetable growing cooperative designed to supplement their diet as well as provide excess vegetables for sale to adjacent communities. Although the project was a success, it was ruined by the civil war that began shortly after James left Africa and returned home in 1966. Upon his return home James enrolled at the University of Wisconsin, Madison, and completed a two year program earning him a Master’s degree in Social Work. In 1968 he accepted full time employment with the Wisconsin Department of Corrections. He was assigned to be the first Probation & Parole Officer in St. Croix County, Wisconsin. He took up an office in the county seat, Hudson, Wisconsin. James married his college sweetheart in 1967. After their move to Hudson, Wisconsin followed by taking up residence in an adjacent community, River Falls, Wisconsin, James and his wife had two children and now have seven grandchildren. James worked for thirty-five years as a Probation & Parole Agent in Hudson, Wisconsin. He reluctantly retired in 2003. During his tenure he started several unique and creative approaches to the supervision of offenders including conducting Transactional Analysis group sessions and directing a Community Beat Supervision approach to the task of maintaining surveillance of clients. After retirement James was trained to do restorative justice and worked part time for the Minnesota Department of Corrections and in Wisconsin for St. Croix Valley Restorative Justice. He has remained active in local church ministries. End.
