Transplant outdoors as soon as soil can be worked or approximately 5 weeks before last frost. Fall crops can be started approximately 3 months before last frost and set outdoors once seedlings have put out at least three true leaves. Cabbage plants are heavy feeders and therefore will benefit from a heavy dose of well-composted manure. Floating row covers and biological controls are effective tools to protect against damaging insects.
