For the Pavilion of Montenegro at the 60th Venice Biennale, Bajagic digs deep into one island’s gritty historical heritage Montenegrin artist Darja Bajagic (born 1990) addresses the perils of collective memory. Using archival photographs as the basis for her paintings and prints, Bajagic focuses on the island of Mamula, a fortress that became a concentration camp during World War II and is now being renovated as a luxury resort.
