After the unusual experience of traveling in cages on a train, something neither of them wanted to repeat ever again, Dash and Shadow find themselves stuck on a farm in the middle of nowhere, at least as far as they are concerned. Soon however, they are drawn into a mystery involving show chickens, a rooster named Gerald, an old sheepdog named Max, two horses named Flash and Blackie, and mysterious unwelcome night visitors. With the future of the farm at stake, Dash and Shadow must face dangers they never encountered in their home town, and risk everything to solve the Case of the Night Raiders.
