This book presents a new understanding of the biblical concept of the kingdom of God. In particular, it gives an alternative to the two contrasting views of the Reformed and Progressive Dispensational understanding of how to interpret the kingdom. These two interpretations have been long contested, and dispensationalism has undergone dramatic changes concerning the interpretation of key biblical passages, especially those pertaining to the covenants in the Old Testament. Progressive Dispensationalism is a recent reinterpretation of the classical views of both Scofield and Chafer. There is thus a great variance of opinions among three major positions--the Reformed, the classical, and the Progressive Dispensational. This book's proposed new position is termed Davidic Millennialism, with an interpretation centering on the understanding of the Davidic covenant. This book is written for both academics and those who are interested in a more comprehensive understanding of how to interpret current and future events in light of God's activity in the world. "In his book Davidic Millennialism , Jeffrey J. Richards proposes to bridge the gap between classical and progressive dispensationalism. Richards traces the roots of classical dispensationalism to Charles Nelson Darby, C. I. Scofield, and Lewis Sperry Chafer. He reasons progressive dispensationalism made use of more contemporary hermeneutical methods. Now Richards proposes using the name 'Davidic Millennialism.' Biblical scholars and theologians will be interested to learn Richards's views on eschatological matters like amillennialism, premillennialism, and postmillennialism." --Paul E. Wilson, Professor of Religion and Philosophy, Retired, Shaw University "Richards's compelling work is a must-read for any serious student of the scriptures pondering the meaning of 'kingdom' in the New Testament. With clarity of thought, a quest for sound biblical interpretation, and historical lenses Richards identifies and challenges our assumptions, considers the major points of view, applies the principles of context, and sets forth an understanding of 'kingdom' that transcends sectarian bias and fits within the framework of a consistent diachronic theology. Three cheers!" --Gary L. Hauck, Dean Emeritus of Arts and Sciences, Montcalm Community College "Dr. Jeff Richards has written a very scholarly and informative book. Davidic Millennialism brings much clarity on the subject of the millennium. All views are explained with great historical detail. Very logical conclusions are deduced using the qualitative method. Dr. Richards, very skillfully, shows the yet future fulfillment of the 2 Samuel 7 passage in the New Testament passages of biblical prophecy." --Norman W.
