This poetry collection is the sixth book in the Dear Black Woman poetry series. It was written in 2025 after Black women suffered a jarring loss--the country failed to elect Kamala Harris as the 47th President of the United States. Black women voted over 90% for Kamala Harris and expected other women to do the same. But this did not happen. The author, like the majority of black women, was angry and felt betrayed. But instead of focusing on this misfortune, the author decided to celebrate black women using a poetic form known as the golden shovel. This poetic form allowed the author to celebrate great poets and at the same time thank Black women for their sacrifices. So rather than dwelling on a nation’s missed opportunity, poets such as Audre Lorde, Maya Angelou, Nikki Giovanni, and Ntozake Shange are honored.
