Also, there are slightly older stars, about three to five million years, dispersed over the image. The darkest areas in the image are clusters of the youngest stars in the complex. These stars are less than one million years old.
In this view, the colours had to be changed in order to make the image visible as the human eye cannot see infrared waves.
