While this book won't explain the social psychology on how we got here, it will review the science, history, and philosophy behind the calorie! Here are some descriptions of my research I have submitted as abstracts: (1) There has been a misconception about energy in nutrition, exercise, and biological sciences, and that misconception is that we operate on the same thermodynamics as a combustion engine. This is the premise of the calorie measurement, and in this presentation I will discuss the history of this measurement, how scientists got it wrong in application, and the real energy dynamics behind nutrition as we understand it with modern physics. (2) Many have heard of the calorie, but not many have heard where the calorie comes from and how heat became associate with respiration. Come learn how this fundamental measurement to nutrition, fitness, and health was conceived with ice spheres and guinea pigs with de la Place and Lavoisier, how the concept of heat energy became associated with biological function from Joules, Helmholtz, Faraday, Leibig, Voit, Rubner, Atwater, and Peters. Finally, together we will discover how the electrons role in thermodynamics fundamentally changed our concept and philosophy of energy, and how to understand biophysical energy from our environment to promote and maintain our body and its biological systems. I am trying to throw together as much information as I can into one place before my deadline of May 31st, 2025 when I will be presenting this information at the American Society for Nutrition Annual Conference. I will also be traveling to other conferences this year, as well, and this book to allow those from these conferences to review and reflect on the evidence I have to finally remove calories from our fitness, nutrition, and health science! I also included my abstract submissions for the conferences I am (or was) hoping to attend in 2025. This book is for anyone, not just science conference people. I wrote it so my mom could hopefully understand it <3. In some of the later parts, I do start to use more complex language structure, especially when I am trying to be scientifically, philosophically, and technically correct in one paragraph. This is largely influenced from my readings. The Second Draft should help clear up a lot of jabber, while this First Draft will introduce everyone to the evidence they need to walk away from calories in nutrition and exercise forever more. I will be writing an update to this book, Second Draft , in 2027 when I will have more time to be thorough and detailed. I definitely rushed the history chapters after Lavoisier, as these were the last parts I wrote for the book a few days before the conference, haha! I am also planning on a Third Draft (and hopefully final draft) in 2030. Then I will be moving on to my main body of work: Somatic Engineering! This is the field that investigates how we can engineer our own body using our own body, from our somatic nervous system! It is an immensely fascinating area of study, and I am glad to be in these fields for my life of research and public contributions.
