Down A Crooked Road: Memoirs of My Journey is the story of a lifetime of troubles and triumphs. A poor Appalachian girl becomes successful in both career and business against all odds. Being born as the youngest of 10 children to a poor family in 1950, there was little chance of being more that married with children, living a hard scrabble life in one of the hardest areas to live in the nation. The journey takes one from the head of a “holler” in Kentucky in a primitive log cabin to retirement from a nursing career today. From horseback transportation to a car or two in ever garage. From no electricity, indoor plumbing, or phone to the computer age with all modern conveniences. Getting from there to here is a compelling story. Mountain culture, poverty, coming of age, marriage, divorce, single motherhood, welfare, education, work, drug addiction, death and widowhood, are all touched on in this story. This story is the story of every Appalachian girl in many ways. Come and reminisce with me.
