The Dreamvine always exacts a price, according to Indaria. Neither Angus nor Johan knew that price before they were committed to pay it. Now they are haunted by not only their dreams, but also those of others long passed. For Angus, those Dreams open doors and convey abilities - abilities that will be needed before the end. But each Dream comes with its own cost, one which the dwarf may not always be able to afford. Johan’s experience is very different, and he finds ways to translate those costs into benefits for many, at least at first. When the events of the first book, Holtgart, catch up to them with an adversary that makes Angus’ Dragon seem benign, the friends must work together to see if they can save the Cyfandir from an unpleasant end.
