With a total of 150 psalms and some supplementary devotionals, this book contains 168 devotionals. The book lends itself to a varie-ty of uses. Some will read through the book, one devotional each day, completing the journey through the psalms in about six months. Others may develop their own personal plans that will shorten or lengthen the study. Some may choose to read the psalms randomly. A reading chart is provided near the back of the book to help the reader keep track of which psalms have been read. An introductory devotional, “Mapping the Psalms,” will familiarize the reader with the MAP process – meditating, applying, praying. At the beginning of each of the five books of the psalms (Psalms 1, 42, 73, 90, and 107), a devotional which overviews the next major section is inserted. Summary devotionals are included at the end of some subsections, and two devotionals are used to treat some longer psalms (Psalms 18, 37, 68, 69, 78, and 89; see also the suggestion that Psalm 119 be treated in several devotionals).
