This handbook provides an inductive and practical guide designed to promote your understanding of econometrical and statistical issues and help you better succeed in your master or PhD programs. It includes more than 100 problems (with solutions) to help you learn by doing. The book covers the main topics of Econometrics, without neglecting the basic concepts of Statistics, and provides a detailed approach to the fundamentals of Econometrics theory through problem-solving exercises designed to illustrate the relation between theory and practice. Each problem begins with a brief theoretical presentation to introduce the statistical or econometrical topic and to make it as simple and clear as possible. This is followed by the solution to the problem, mostly involving real data. There are 81 problems and how to solve them, 25 supplementary problems with solutions and 10 final tests, covering all the topics in the book. To solve most of the problems, you will need to use Excel and/or R/RStudio. R is a powerful open source language and environment for statistical computing and graphical analysis, and while it can be used as it is, for educational purposes it is better to use R in combination with the RStudio interface (also freeware), which has an organized layout and several extra options. Included are instructions on how to install and use R and RStudio. Therefore, tackling the problems in this book will also provide plenty of practice to help improve your understanding and ability to use R and RStudio. Although the entire R code used in the applications is written in the book, further clarification is available on request. In general, Econometrics, and quantitative methods courses can become a real headache for students. I hope that by providing problems with their solutions to make the econometrics topics clearer and more simple, this book can lessen that 'pain'.
