ESCAPE TO THE SUN…a summary of genuine unforgettable travel encounters and authentic personal experiences. After some 15 years as teachers in Munich, we took a sabbatical year to once again travel to foreign counties and cultures to finally find a place where we hoped to eventually emigrate to in order to live in a natural, peaceful environment. On a sailing trip through the Mediterranean, from Rhodes to the Canary Islands our adventures started where we met a traditional French Three-Master, the crew welcomed us to sail across the Atlantic to the Antilles. Christmas Eve 1978 we dropped anchor in Admiralty Bay “BEQUIA” from there another adventure began. The discovery of ancient ruins and subsequently the creation of the ‘The Old Fort’, a nostalgic, historic estate. In short, this is a chronology of our journeys over the years from 1978 to the turn of the century. On excursions across the island we came across the mighty stone walls of the ruins from an old, fortified manor house with vaulted cisterns, and an impressive stone oven, from where views sweep over numerous islands in the East, South and West, a panorama that fascinated us. The area was up for sale, and we were happy to purchase the 30+ acre plantation.
