Eagle Lake in World War II captures the untold story of a small Texas town and how it came together in shared patriotic efforts during the war. From Victory Gardens to scrap metal drives, it is the story of courage of its young men and women who served our country. Many local heroes gave the ultimate sacrifice. Others accomplished extraordinary deeds in the Battle of the Bulge; as Military Governor of Rome; as a hero who saved his shipmates from a torpedo: as a female pilot in the Women’s Air Service Patrol; and as a nurse in the Army Nurse’s Corp. It tells the story of Tar, the local dog sent overseas as a War Dog; and those at home who volunteered their skills in the Red Cross, USO, war drives, airplane-spotting, food conservation, and bandage-making. All who served were heroes.
