This book is dedicated to all dark-skinned women of any ethnicity living in Italy, who still today experience the inadequacy of the Italian fashion world, primarily designed for Caucasian women. The book openly and passionately addresses style issues that are far from insignificant or negligible to the “Black” world. A different perspective is needed - one that understands both realities- to create a bridge between diverse cultures, fostering a shared appreciation for beauty and elegance. Alina Balijja was born in the province of Milan in 1974, a few months after her parents arrived in Italy from Uganda. The daughter of a Ugandan painter and an Italian mother, she was always surrounded by art, which she embraced as a way of life despite earning a degree and a PhD in the scientific field. Growing up in a “non-conventional” family for that time allowed her to freely express her eclectic nature, leading her to abandon her research career and dedicate herself with equal passion to the study of the female image—a pursuit she had always nurtured, also through her involvement in tailoring. In her journey, Alina set out to explore and experiment with the female form, seeking that harmonic beauty her father had introduced her to. She obtained a certification as an Image Consultant from The College of Fashion & Design in Dubai and has since continued to refine and shape her love for elegance, focusing especially on dark-skinned women who, like her, live in Italy.
