"I then inquired if he had written down any of these experiences. My question was answered on February 2, 2007 by an e-mail from Sharon containing stories and pictures. In 2009 I bumped into Larry at another cousin's funeral. He was 76 years old with two 2002 surgically replaced knees and an elk tag for the 2009 hunt. In addition, a 2005 casual horse ride on BLM property bordering his home - had nearly cost him his life. A few years passed and one day out of the blue - January 26, 2015 - Larry called me. He said that on the 28th he would be 82 years old. We talked about hunting - which he was still doing. It was irresistible: "Larry" I said, "I am out of projects and in need of another. Would you let me assemble your hunting stories - along with commentary - into a book?" He replied, "Let's do it!" To this day I do not know what motivated him to call me - he is 7 years older than I - and we have - with the exception of our heritage - little in common. That part is unimportant. Through the years he had written down in long hand - what he considered - memorable hunting experiences. Sharon then converted them into type written form and e-mailed them out to interested folks like myself. Since January 26, 2015 Larry John Butikofer has remembered and reduced to writing more stories. What a fun project this has been for all of us. Kent H. Butikofer
