What’s your favorite Psalm? I suppose, like almost all of us, it’s too big a question. Today, I may cross paths with a verse or two that are very appropriate for the moment, but tomorrow, it’s a different need, and different Psalms and different verses become more appropriate. It’s safe to say, no matter where I’m at – physically, emotionally, spiritually – there is a psalm that speaks to me. A while back, I was inspired to read all 150 Psalms – and write a short reflection on each. It turned out to be a great adventure! In compiling the reflections for this book, I’ve discovered that in many cases – not all – I am in a different place and in different circumstances than I was at the time of the original reflection-writing. So, for many of the Psalms, a new reflection was born! The moral of this story – just like all the bible – is that it is a living set of books that never cease to provide insights, guidance, inspirations, meditation opportunities, and sources of prayer and pondering.I challenge you, as you enter into the adventure of the Psalms, to do so with a pen in your hand, and write your own personal reflections as you travel through each of the Psalms. For me, it helped to establish a routine of a short prayer, read the Psalm, and be prepared to write whenever the inspiration to do so strikes! The internalization of the Psalm words through the writing of a reflection was my greatest adventure during this endeavor. I’m sure you will, like me, have your own adventure, and make many discoveries along the way!The Psalms are presented here in three separate books, each covering 50 psalms (1 – 50, 51 – 100, 101 – 150).
