A deeply personal account of one man's faith, Extra Nos recounts hip-hop Christian rapper FLAME's journey from Calvinism to Lutheranism. After a serious car accident when he was 16, FLAME dedicated his music to Christian doctrine. Follow his path of being discovered as an artist to attending Concordia Seminary. In Extra Nos, FLAME dissects the misguided lyrics he used to write and details the truth he found in Lutheranism. While FLAME's faith journey and life may be unique, readers will recognize the forgiveness, kindness, and healing nature of Lutheranism. David 9/22/24 Flame gives excellent ideas and approaches to use with anyone who does not have a grasp of the fact that our salvation is completely the work of God presented to us through Word and Sacrament. I have often wondered just how to witness to my faith with someone who is convinced that they have to contribute to their salvation. He clearly shows the angst many Christians have in trying to discern on their own if they really committed their life to Christ as in his Pentecostal upbringing or if they are actually doing enough good things to know for certain that they are one of the elect which he wrestled with in his Calvinist days. I'll admit I have spent very little time listening to rap music but he has done an excellent job witnessing about Jesus and really spelling out how God works through the Means of Grace in Scripture, Baptism and The Lord's Supper as well as the peace that is given through confession and absolution. Soli Deo Gloria Flame, Soli Deo Gloria! James N. 2/18/24 I was baptized, confirmed and spent my early twenties in the LCMS. However I became involved in the Dutch Reformed tradition and became Calvinist later on. I picked this book up a year ago (33 years old) and it brought joy to my heart once again as I followed along Flame's journey, which oddly was very similar to my own in many ways. I never found peace in Calvinism always asking myself "have I done enough?, how much is enough? Is God angry with me?". I rediscovered through Flame's journey a righteousness and grace outside myself. To trust in Christ alone through faith alone! I can gladly say I have returned home to the Lutheran faith, the biblical faith and I will never look back again! Take up and read Extra Nos, you won't regret it! Jenna 10/5/23 I really enjoyed and related to this book. Much like the author, I also endured serious spiritual struggles and anxiety due to faulty theology, in both Roman Catholic and Reformed circles. I rejoice along with my Lutheran brother in Christ FLAME, that the true pure gospel been graciously restored to us. FLAME's clear, joyous proclamation of the word rightly divided is very refreshing, and a great gift to the Lutheran church and all Christians, especially those in doubt and fear. The prayer at the end is so beautiful. I will definitely be sharing and recommending this book often. Grammy-nominated FLAME has released nine albums since 2004. After three years of studying Lutheran theology at Concordia Seminary in St. Louis, FLAME became confessionally Lutheran. In 2020, he was received into the Lutheran Church and proceeded to write his EP Christ for You on the sacraments.
