This book focuses on diseases which are a major cause of blindness in developing countries and the tropics. It is written from a clinical perspective but also emphasizes what can be done in prevention and primary health care. It contains chapters on trachoma and xerophthalmia, both major causes of eye disease and blindness, as well as, chocerciasis and leprosy. Introductory chapters cover anatomy and physiology in the eye, optics and methods of examination and treatment, and common diseases of the eye, including symptoms, signs, causes, management, treatment and prevention.
