The Miskell and Maupin families have a long and rich history. Many were early settlers in this new country. Some as early as Jamestown and Williamsburg. They helped tame the wilderness. They fought with the British during the French and Indian Wars. They fought against the British in the fight for liberty in the American Revolution. After the war some took their land grants in Kentucky as payment for their sacrifices in the cause of liberty. Most of them came from England. Through their linage in England, you find that they are related to many Kings of England. Two notable grandfathers are William the Conqueror and King John of the Robin Hood stories. The royals were known for their marriages with royals of other countries. Because of this the family also has grandfathers that were kings of France and kings of Scotland. An interesting note, my parents, Ted and Doris Skeie, and my wife, Crystal’s mother, Opel Miskell Sperow lived about 10 miles apart. Also, my grandfather Theodore Skeie and Crystals’ grandfather Noel Miskell lived about 20 miles apart in Iowa. In a mere 1000 years we find a connection between our families. Crystal’s 27th great-grandfather, King Malcolm of Scotland married the niece of my 29th great-grandfather, King Harald Hardrade, of Norway. King Malcolm and King Harald combined their armies to defend England from the invasion of William the Conqueror, who happens to also be a 27th great-grandfather of Crystal.

How are ratings calculated?
To calculate the overall star rating and percentage breakdown by star, we don’t use a simple average. Instead, our system considers things like how recent a review is and if the reviewer bought the item on Amazon. It also analyzes reviews to verify trustworthiness.
