Antonio and Teresa left it all behind in Calabria, family, friends, hunger, and crushing poverty. They brought with them some of the gold which is found in the hearts of the Calabrese. Ahead was an uncertain future full of hope, dreams, and unending poverty as a coal mining family in West Virginia. Their family wealth multiplied with the birth of each of their fourteen children. Poverty has a way of amplifying one’s essential character. Antonio and Teresa’s grandchildren have distilled the essence of that golden Calabrian character in this collection of memories. They understand the importance of preserving the oral history of those that came before them. Antonio and Teresa’s dreams were born in poverty, now their American dream has been realized by their grandchildren.
