Disillusioned U.S. Cavalry Major Sam Nabors is summoned to Fort Leavenworth in the post-Civil War West. Guilt-ridden over the murder of his wife, daughter and mother on their Kansas farm, Nabors is convinced by General Andy Chutte to delay retirement. He is one of few who can lead a mission into eastern New Mexico to retrieve a cache of gold…before Confederate raiders steal it to finance a new war. Nabors must integrate former Confederate officers into a consolidated company of Buffalo Soldiers, all Black, who have every reason to hate the old Confederacy. Adding fuel to the fire is a cadre of Comanche, the only group alive who can safely guide Company K through increasingly hostile territory. Nabors grudgingly accepts the challenge. Too late, he realizes a supposedly loyal officer is behind his family’s deaths…and a whole lot more. A trail of blood and betrayal spreads from New Mexico back to Kansas before the fellow warriors can hang up their spurs.
