Well, there’s this book that came out last year, March 9th 2024, that Dillan Allen was supposed to write a 250 words essay prompt about lonesomeness, but he couldn’t do it. He wrote out 200 pages on lonesomeness, and grief. When a different Dylan in the same kind of situation got asked to write something about Woody, sorta like ‘what does Woody Guthrie mean to you in 25 words?’ he couldn’t keep it that short and he wrote out five pages. Both Dillan Allen’s over extended essay and Bob Dylan’s drawn out eulogy addressed the same age old question that no maniac depressive has yet to find the words to answer: when a lover, like you believe yourself to be, loses everything, “where do you look for your hope that you know is there and out there somewhere?” Bob Dylan, well he came up with a pretty crafty answer for that in his poem, writing that: You can touch and twist And turn two kinds of doorknobs You can either go to the church of your choice Or you can go to Brooklyn State Hospital You’ll find God in the church of your choice You’ll find Woody Guthrie in Brooklyn State Hospital And though it’s only my opinion I may be right or wrong You’ll find them both In the Grand Canyon At sundown That’s pretty cool and all if you’re like Bob Dylan, talking about Woody Guthrie. Dillan Allen though, having been so close to Johnny Allen, would refute that, because with someone like Johnny Allen, if you wait until sundown, then you’re not gonna reach him until nightfall, and Dillan Allen of anyone could tell you that night falls fast. Johnny Allen was twilight. He was purple. Pretty deep stuff, right
