She jabbed a long rod into the ice to see if it would break through."). Step by step through the day, readers are privy to the precision and work that go into this type of adventure. The narrative at times falls a little flat, but the detailed images of Inuit fishing tools, combined with the Inuktitut terms on the endpapers, make this book a solid resource for learning about another culture and way of life. She loved to go camping and fishing whenever she could and often brought new people along to teach them these land skills. She enjoyed sewing and teaching younger people important cultural practices. She was an extremely resourceful person and believed that was an important quality to pass on to the younger generation. She had many grandchildren with whom she loved to share her stories. She believed books are a wonderful way to preserve and share her knowledge and stories with more people. Maren Vsetula is a teacher and educational writer. She loves to spend as much time on the land as she can, hiking, fishing, paddling, and dogsledding. She has lived and worked in Nunavut for over a decade.
