A pretty and easy to grow annual plant with blue flowers that is grown as an ornamental plant but also for the production of flaxseed oil and fibers for fabric.
Preferably plant directly outdoors as the plant does not tolerate transplantation well. Sow in spring, or late summer-fall before the rainy season starts, for overwintering. Sow 1/8-inch deep in rows 12 inches apart into the well-prepared raked soil in a full sun and sheltered area. Keep the soil moist. It will germinate in 3-4 weeks if sown in spring. Once germinated thin seedlings to 6 inches apart. Do not fertilize as this reduces blooming and do not transplant. Deadhead spent flowers to encourage further blooming.
