With interest in fly fishing increasing at a phenomenal rate over the past decade or so, a book about fly fishing across Canada seemed like a winner. However, considering our country s size, radical diversification of geography, the hundreds of thousands of lakes and rivers involved, plus the active recreational fishery of the coast of British Columbia, it seemed logical that such a project should involve as many writers as possible in order to do it justice. With that thought in mind, on July 6, 1998, I drafted a letter and sent it to 21 fellow members of the Outdoor Writers of Canada (OWC). In it I proposed compiling such a book as a 100 percent volunteer project, with all profits shared equally between the OWC and Fly Fishing Canada. I felt that if a half-dozen members responded positively, the project might be worth pursuing. I received 19 replies---all of them offering variations of Let s go for it! . . .
