Our Notes: The Strawberry Basil Organic is a terrific pairing of strawberries at their peak of sweet ripeness with green mint flavor of basil. Basil is very subtle and balances out the sweetness of the strawberries. Cooked at a low heat to preserve the wonderful flavor of fresh summer strawberries. A wonderful jam to have during the winter, and spring as we are waiting for the new crop of strawberries to show up. Producer's Notes: Sweet local fruit slowly simmered and cooked down with basil grown here on our organic farm. We’ve paired these two flavors together to capture the best of the pairing. About the Producer: Timothy Young co-founded "Food For Thought" 20 years ago with a commitment to "create and raise awareness around just and sustainable food" I met him and his daughter at recent "Good Food Awards" where he was winning his second straight award for creating a delicious preserve. A small, certified organic production facility, Food For Thought is located in northern Michigan in the heart of the Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore. Their building was carefully built with concern for the planet, using green and recycled materials. That same care and concern is put into their products, which are small batch, family farmed, use intentional ingredients and are finished with a great deal of love and commitment. Timothy is passionate about the foods he makes and believes it starts with the source of the ingredients. He has tight relationship with his farmers, purchases only fair trade organic sugar, and all ingredients are organic, non-GMO, and fair trade. Food For Thought is a wonderful example of a food maker who personally knows the sources of his ingredients and is passionate about making he best foods possible.
