This book includes 10 sonatas by Franz Joseph Haydn, arranged for solo classical guitar by Gary Stewart. They are intermediate to advanced in difficulty. Joseph Haydn was one of the chief components in the conception of classical sonata form. These sonatas were written in Haydn’s early years when the standard classical sonata form, as we understand it today, was still in its infancy. These sonatas were an essential step in moving towards this finalized form. These early sonatas also demonstrate the influence that C. P. E. Bach and Scarlatti had on the young Haydn. The accompaniment texture of the sonatas is very light with most of the emphasis on the melody in the right hand. Given that most of the sonatas have this light accompaniment texture, the arranging process was fairly straightforward. These are a welcomed addition to the classical guitar repertoire.
